“ROB THE MOB” – THE MAKING OF…

Image
Subscribe in a reader This past week we held a two-full-days excursion to every location handpicked by our location scout team . These two days were devoted to technical dissections for each location and each scene within each location. We would get to the location and Raymond would initiate the dialogue with the description of the scene that would take place there, then the many heads of departments would take over and scrutinize each section of the location, jot down measurements, take light readings, piece together the stunt sequences & gather an array of photos on the location for further “dress-up”. Director Raymond De Felitta addressing crew Through the process of finding the perfect locations to shoot ‘ Rob the Mob ’, we came across fascinating neighborhoods that embodied the essence of New York.   From the Italian American “pork stores” of Brooklyn (and their delicious rice balls), to the merengue & salsa- infused streets o...

Subscribe in a reader     One tremendously important undertaking in recreating the 90’s (or any era) is LOCATION SCOUTING. Finding the right place to shoot can save huge amounts of time AND money in the production of a film. Our location scouts have been hard at work finding nooks and crannies within Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx that seem to have been untouched by time. These precious findings are only the first outlines drawn in the mural we’re trying to create for this film.  Enjoy the photos! MORE TO COME..... stay tuned!                                                                                                                   ...

"ROB THE MOB" - BURT YOUNG JOINS THE CAST OF ROB THE MOB!

Image
Subscribe in a reader Actor, painter and author, Burt Young can be much better described as an all-around artist. One of his most memorable performances was his Academy Award-nominated role as Sylvester Stallone's brother-in-law and best friend Paulie in the ‘ Rocky’ film series. With over a hundred films under his belt, Young's performances have always been poignant; he masters the portrayal of rough-edged characters with a seamless marriage of rawness and authenticity that instantly pulls you in. Young's work as a painting have been exhibited around the world and is also a published author whose works include two filmed screenplays and 400-page historically based novel called  Endings . Needless to say Young’s role in ‘ Rob the Mob’  will undoubtedly be one to remember!! Stay tuned for more on Burt and the rest of the cast! Stéphanie

Subscribe in a reader           Recreating the world of a movie takes the careful and studious eyes of set designers , prop masters , location scouts ,  set decorators and costume designers . Beyond extensive research a thorough understanding of the social attitudes of the times is necessary. From the socio-economic status of the characters to the period’s political and cultural state, much needs to be taken into consideration when creating (or in this case RE-creating) a past era. For Rob the Mob we need to recreate New York (more specifically, The Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens) in 1991 and 1992. Take a look at the drawing boards of our very talented team, piecing together the world of Rob the Mob .                                  The team at work!!! …more to come! Stéphanie

"ROB THE MOB" - MOBSTER OF THE WEEK...

Image
Subscribe in a reader Though the "character" Donnie Brasco didn't live in the 90's, but I've always found it quiet a fascinating tale. Joe Pistone was an FBI agent who infiltrated the Bonanno crime family under the name “Donnie Brasco”. He was a pioneer for deep long-term undercover work. J. Edgar Hoover originally did not want FBI agents to work undercover because it could be a dirty job and might end up tainting the agents, but Pistone's work helped convince the FBI that using undercover agents instead of just using informants was a crucial tool in law enforcement. Pistone was selected to be an undercover agent because he was of Sicilian heritage, was fluent in Italian and was acquainted with the mob from growing up in New Jersey. The operation was given the code name "Sun-Apple" after the locations of its two simultaneous operations: Miami ("Sunny Miami") and New York ("The Big Apple"). After exte...

Subscribe in a reader "I never lie because I don't fear anyone. You only lie when you're afraid." – John Gotti I found it appropriate to share this fascinating piece of history since our film revolves around it: Mafia in NY . Let’s start with a BIG one… John Gotti . John Gotti was born on October 27, 1940, in the South Bronx NY. He was the fifth of thirteen children of Italian immigrant parents, and would face run-ins with the law throughout his life. On March 6, 1962, Gotti married 17-year-old Victoria DiGiorgio. At the time of their marriage, DiGiorgio had already given birth to their first child, Angela, and was pregnant with their second. When he and his family made the move to Ozone Park in Queens, New York, the budding criminal quickly became a major player in the Gambino hijacking crew. In 1968, Gotti served his first major sentence when the FBI charged him and his two accomplices with committing cargo thefts near John F. Kenn...
