Our story takes place against the fourth trial of John Gotti, the Gambino family crime boss. After three high-profile trials in the 1980s ended in acquittals, Gotti had earned the nickname “Teflon Don,” (cause nothing stuck!) along with “Dapper Don,” for flouting the Mafia convention of staying quiet and being a visible, charismatic and sartorially-minded New York presence.
